New
Spa Treatment Inspired by Seaside Location
Maine's
Cliff House Resort & Spa atop Bald Head Cliff in Ogunquit
offers spa treatments inspired by its location overlooking the
Atlantic Ocean.
New
for the 2006 season is the SeaShell Therapy, a three-part
body treatment to improve circulation and lymphatic function.
The therapy begins with a natural bristle, dry brush exfoliation
followed by an application of seaweed and mud to reach deeper
into the skin. A massage of warmed cone, scallop and fan shaped
seashells follows. The seashell massage is based on an ancient
Hawaiian therapy. A choice of rosemary, citrus or lavender oils
accompanies the massage. The final part of the therapy is a full
body hydration with Shea Butter, a natural derivative of the West
African Karite tree mixed with a blend of herbal extracts.
Other
treatments inspired by the resort's location include a stone
massage with basalt stones gathered from the millennia-old Bald
Head Cliff, a body buff with salts from the Dead Sea, and a facial
with a mask made of wild, organic Maine blueberries.
On
the spa terrace overlooking Bald Head Cliff is a 30 foot diameter
labyrinth made from Maine granite. This walking path is based
on ancient mysticism and metaphysics associated with spiritual
quests and the meaning of life. Buried beneath the center of the
Labyrinth is a 2000 millennium capsule.
Says
Spa Director, Julie Morse-Patuleia, " Our therapies incorporate
indigenous rocks and plants for healing, relaxing, balancing and
energizing. The Cliff House Resort & Spa has not only a one-of-a-kind
location but one-of-a-kind spa treatments."
The Cliff House Resort & Spa is the oldest, family
owned and operated resort on the East Coast. The 2006 season will
mark the 134th year of operation. In 2002, The Cliff House opened
New England's first oceanfront spa. The spa facilities are handicapped
accessible and feature a vanishing pool trailing off into the
Atlantic, a fitness mezzanine with state-of-the-art exercise equipment,
a 75-foot lap pool and 36 guest rooms with ocean views.
